M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2011

I HAD the opportunity to view and listen to excerpts of the upcoming M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2011 to run from 5 – 16 January 2011. The theme for the 2011 run is Art + Education.

I did not attend any of the 2010 run and was not certain of what to expect and in case my readers are also uncertain here is a snippet about M1 Singapore Fringe Festival.

” The M1 Singaproe Fringe Festival is an annual festival of theatre, dance, music, visual arts and mixed media created and presented by Singapore and International artsis.”

I especially like this part.

“The M1 Singaproe Fringe Festival is set to be a creative centre, with the twin purpose of innovation and discussion, a platform for meaninful and provocative art to engage our incresingly connected and complex world.”

If I had read those two paragraphs prior to sitting down for the introduction and Media event I would have known what to expect. However, having said that, if I had known I would have been less shell shocked and truly provoked.

The first excerpt from Sean Tobin really turned up the drama. Watch his reading and you’ll think so too.

The other excerpt previewed was Model Citizens which was first staged in March 2010 at The Necessary Stage with a sold out run. Directed by Alvin Tan and written by Haresh Sharma, Model Citizens features Goh Guat Kian, Siti Khalijah and Karen Tan.

Thanks for Phish Communications, the Fringe Team and Artiste’s for taking the time to enrich my soul with these snippets. If only these excerpts were available for all of the performances. It would certainly help in making an informed decision on which performances to catch come January 2011. I was priveleged to see them and record them for prosperity. Of course, my readers benefit for the two clips.
